Like a lot of emerging tech, conversational commerce is making its way through the typical Gartner Hype Cycle. And now we’re in the “trough of disillusionment.”
That’s not to say that the sector has cratered… but that things slow down as initial excitement is tempered. The next stage will see sustainable models that emerge somewhere in the middle.
For example, messaging interfaces will fit nicely in some areas of local commerce like scheduling appointments. They won’t work as well in complex areas like buying a car.
