Innovation, execution and re-invention are some of the common themes among the headline speakers at BIA/Kelsey’s upcoming ENGAGE conference in Austin, Texas. ENGAGE runs from May 16-18 at the Austin Hilton.
Opening headliner (May 17) Steven Johnson is a leading thinker on innovation and author of nine books and host of the series, “How We Got to Now” based on his book of the same name, which aired on PBS and the BBC. He also created the website “How We Get to Next” which showcases business innovation. Johnson will offer a clear point of view on what sets true innovators apart from everyone else.
Later on May 17, YP Canada CEO Julien Billot will offer a primer on how to verticalize a traditional media business. His company is on a clear path back to growth (unusual in YP’s space), and his strategy of building audience and attracting new customers by investing in best in class verticals is worth noting, and possibly modeling. Later, YP’s Jeff Biesman will offer clear steps on how to build an effective digital presence for SMBs — a core business for many in the audience.
Rounding out Day 1, will be Localeur CEO Joah Spearman and OWNLocal founder Jeremy Mims. Both are young, Austin-based entrepreneurs with clear ideas on what it takes to win in local. Spearman is an advocate for building products designed for the unique consumption habits of millennials. Mims isn’t afraid to share his candid views on what does and doesn’t work when providing digital marketing services for SMBs.
On May 18, Sensis CEO John Allan will focus on what it takes to rebuild a sales organization to face modern challenges. Like Billot, Allan is tasked with rebuilding and restoring a legacy media business to growth.
